“In 10 sessions, you will feel the difference. In 20, you will see the difference. And in 30, you’ll be on your way to having a whole new body.” – Joseph Pilates

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a mat or equipment based exercise program designed to improve
  • Strength
  • Flexibility
  • Stability
  • Functionality

It focuses on recruiting the deep abdominal muscles responsible for stabilising the spine through movement. It can help improve your :
  • Posture,
  • Body awareness
  • Balance
  • Sports performance

Pilates is a very versatile style of exercise that can be adapted for those just beginning, to the advanced.

Mat vs Reformer?

Pilates and back pain

Control of the deep abdominal muscles plays an integral part in the health of your back. Those with a history of lower back pain have been shown to have diminished strength and control in the muscles that stabilise the spine.  Isolating and strengthening these muscles in a controlled way can dramatically improve day to day function and reduce the frequency and intensity of back pain.

Are the classes right for me?

All classes at Waverton Physio are conducted in small groups and run by physios to ensure close supervision of each participant.  Pilates suits those with injuries as well as those looking for general strength and health benefits.

If you have an acute injury, or are unsure where to start, we highly recommend you book an initial consultation with us prior to joining a class.  This allows us the opportunity to assess your situation and ensure you are able to contract your core muscles appropriately.

As the class is conducted by a physiotherapist, it may claimable under the physiotherapy schedule of your private health fund. This varies fund to fund and dependent on your policy. It is best to contact your fund to find out if you are entitled to a rebate, or exactly how much the rebate is. Waverton Physio takes no responsibility for dishonored claims.

** All HCF members are required to have an initial consultation prior to joining any class to be entitled to a rebate.

As health funds will not provide a rebate for future services, we are not able to issue a receipt at the time of purchase if you wish to purchase multiple classes. A receipt will be issued for claiming at the completion of your final class.

If you wish to attend casually, you can claim on the spot using HICAPS. Please arrive a few minutes prior to class to allow time for this.
